Softball Preview: Road Trip to West Georgia

The Series
West Alabama and the West Georgia Wolves are set to start their Gulf South Conference series Sunday with a doubleheader and wrap with a single on Monday.
 
Where
All three games will be at the University Softball Field on the University of West Georgia campus in Carrollton, Georgia. 
 
When
Sunday's games will be played at 1 p.m. CST and 3 p.m. CST with the series to conclude Monday at 1 p.m. CST.

West Alabama
The Tigers are 9-7 overall and 3-2 in league play after sweeping a GSC doubleheader to against Lee University in Livingston, Alabama. UWA won the first game 4-2 and the second game 5-4 in dramatic fashion with a walkoff single by Chrissy Tubbs.
 
West Georgia
The Wolves are 10-10 on the season and 1-5 in the conference after dropping a series to Mississippi College. UWG picked up two midweek nonconference wins over Georgia Southwestern Wednesday.
 
Blame it on the Rain
Rain has reared its head again and forced a change from the original schedule. UWA and West Georgia were set to meet today for a single game and Saturday for a doubleheader. However, mother nature had other plans for the schedule…again.
 
Last Season
West Georgia won the only meeting between the teams during the GSC Crossover on Feb. 18 in Montgomery, Alabama by the score of 5-3. Alli Craft finished with two RBIs while Nicole Buccieri went 3-for-3 from the plate.
 
My Sacrifice
Hayes Fulford and Kendall Johnson have been the ultimate team players as both are tied for the GSC lead in sacrifice bunts at five each. Chrissy Tubbs is 12th in the league with three. 


Hit Me with Your Best Shot
Kacy Noland is second in the league in being hit by pitch after getting hit for the sixth time against Lee. Kendall Johnson is tied for ninth in getting pelted at four HBP. 
 
I Can Go the Distance
Nora Keehn has been a force for the Tigers. The senior pitcher has gone 45 innings with five complete games to her credit. She third in opponent batting average at .216 for hurlers who have thrown 40 innings or more and fourth with 38 hits allowed when filtered through the same 40 inning lens.

West Alabama will head to Montevallo, Alabama for a weekend series against the University of Montevallo Falcons. The series is set for a 6 p.m. start on Friday, March 8 followed with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
