Tigers Finish GSC Slate Undefeated, Regular Season Champs

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Alabama women's tennis team came into Tuesday's match against West Georgia at Sunset Hills knowing an undefeated 2019 slate against Gulf South Conference opponents was possible, even probable.
 
When the final point was recorded West Alabama had gone from probable to positive that the 12th-ranked Tigers were regular season GSC women's tennis champions, polishing off West Georgia, 7-0, to finish a perfect 13-0 conference run.
 
West Alabama will carry a 13-match winning streak and a 16-4 overall record into the 2019 GSC Championships May 2-4 in Montgomery, Alabama. The Tigers first round opponent is yet to be determined.
 
"This was another great day for the women," head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Now it's time to buckle down for finals and then the conference tournament."
 
This is the first GSC regular-season title for West Alabama in women's tennis and the first undefeated run through the conference regular season.
 
UWA wasted little time Tuesday, winning all three doubles points over the Wolves (7-11, 2-9) to set the tone before winning every singles court in straight sets to put the match away. Senior Andrea Tomassone's 6-2, 6-1 win over Meg Cummings clinched the match.
 
Five of the eight seeds have been clinched for the GSC Championships, led by the Tigers. Also, already in the field are West Florida, Mississippi College, Lee and Valdosta State.
