Tiger Women Advance to GSC Tennis Semi-Finals
 
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's tennis team ran its winning streak to 14 consecutive matches and advanced to the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament semi-finals by defeating Delta State, 4-0, Thursday at the O'Connor Tennis Center.
 
"I am proud of the team for being ready to go," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "This was a good match to get back into form after final exams."
 
Top-seeded West Alabama got off on the right foot by winning the doubles point with identical 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Sarah Manseri and Liliana Araucz beat Beth Owen and Nathalia Stelzer at No. 2, while Haina Franco and Daryna Hukasian defeated Sophie St. Amant and Katheryne Valencia at No. 3. Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone were leading 5-1 but did not finish at No. 1.
 
The Tigers, ranked 15th nationally, clinched the match to advance in the tourney by winning singles courts 3, 4 and 5 in straight sets. Franco defeated Ione' Deroode 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and Georgina Salom took care of Katheryne Valencia 6-2, 6-2 on Court 4. Tomassone's 6-1, 6-1 win over Stelzer at No. 5 clinched the match for UWA.
 
West Alabama (17-4) will meet the winner of the Lee and Valdosta State match in the semi-finals Friday at 9 a.m.
