UWA Men, Women Drop Matches at CSU

COLUMBUS, Ga. – In matches featuring four teams in the NCAA Division II top 25, West Alabama came up short at Columbus State on Sunday, losing to both the Cougar men and women by identical 6-1 margins at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
 
The second-ranked Columbus State men's team remained undefeated at 4-0, while No. 16 West Alabama dropped to 4-3. The CSU women's team, ranked No. 3 nationally, is 5-1. No. 24 West Alabama is now 1-3.
 
"These were tough matches against two very good teams," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "You look to learn from these matches. We have a lot of tennis coming up this week."
 
Christopher Bulus defeated Fabien Asdrubal 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for West Alabama's lone win in singles. Noah Johansen and Nuutti Jokinen won at No. 3 doubles despite the Cougars winning the doubles point.
 
Hardija Vidnere defeated Kristina Baran 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 at No. 5 singles for the only UWA win in the women's match.
 
The Tigers return to action Thursday at Delta State. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
