Valdosta State Downs UWA in GSC Women’s Soccer

VALDOSTA, Ga. - West Alabama women's soccer team took a 3-1 defeat from Valdosta State Friday night at VSU Soccer Complex. The Tigers fall to 7-3-2 overall and 5-2-1 in GSC play. The Blazers improved to 8-4-1 on the year, 5-3-1 in the conference.

VSU jumped to a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of the match when the Blazers' forward Kyleigh Reedy scored.

Defender Lucy Horn scored the equalizer for the Tigers in the 28th minute to bring the score to 1-1.

The Blazers closed out the first half with another goal in the 38th minute to give VSU a 2-1 advantage over UWA before halftime. 

Coming out of the half, neither team found the back of the net. It was steady play until Valdosta State scored another goal with 15 minutes left in the second half to close out the match with a 3-1 victory over West Alabama.

Anele Komani and Anna Dickov both took two shots for the Tigers, with one being on goal.

The Blazers outshot the Tigers 10-6 and won the shots on goal battle 8-3. 

UWA's goalie Tabitha Weldon allowed three goals and recorded five saves as she faced 10 shots in her 90 minutes of action. 

The physical contest had two yellow cards called along with 16 fouls called. VSU was called for nine, while UWA was called for seven.

The Tigers close out their road series in Georgia Sunday, Oct. 23 with a match against West Georgia. Kickoff is set for noon at University Field in Carrollton
