Homoki Scores in Sudden Death Penalty Kick; Tigers Advance to Semifinals

CLINTON, Miss. - West Alabama women's soccer member Rachel Homoki scored the penalty kick goal in sudden death PK's to claim the victory over Mississippi College in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament Sunday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton, Mississippi, advancing them to semifinals.

It was kept a scoreless match in regulation and both overtime periods with neither team finding the game-winning goal. The match then went into a penalty kick shootout with the Tigers coming out on top after Homoki found the back of the net to knock Mississippi College out of the GSC Championship Tournament.

Between the posts for the Tigers was Tabitha Weldon. The Orange Park, Florida native displayed a huge defensive performance and recorded 10 saves as she faced a total of 34 shots in her 110 minutes of action.

The Choctaws' goalkeeper Sara Maleski recorded four saves as she faced five shots in her 110 minutes of action.

Mississippi College outshot West Alabama 34-5, and won the shots on goal battle 10-4. The Choctaws also had the advantage over the Tigers in corner kicks, 5-0.

Three yellow cards and 10 fouls were called in the physical contest. Both the Choctaws and the Tigers were called for five fouls.

The Tigers now advance to semifinals which will be held Thursday, Nov. 11. UWA will battle West Georgia in Pensacola, Florida at 3:30 p.m.
