Women's Soccer Host Union

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama women's soccer team returns to Tiger Stadium for its home opener Sunday, hosting Union at 3 p.m. This will be the first GSC game for both the Tigers and Lady Bulldogs.

UWA was ranked second in GSC preseason poll while Union was ranked sixth.

The head coaches voted in the preseason poll for their own groups. Teams received five points for a first place vote, four for a second place vote, etc. The head coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Number of first place votes in parenthesis.

The Tigers started off the season with a 1-0 record win over Mississippi University for Women.

Midfielder Sarah Coco and goalkeeper Tabitha Weldon are listed as the Tigers top returners, while forward Rachel Homoki and defender Megan Wintermeier are listed by the league as top newcomers. 

From Seminole, Florida, Coco has made 17 career appearances for the Tigers and has started in seven of those games. Weldon from Orange Park, Florida, has made 11 career appearances for the Tigers and has started in 10.

Homoki is a freshman from Marietta, Georgia who attended Lassiter High School. Wintermeier is a junior that transferred from Daytona State College.

There is no admission charge for women's soccer in 2021, but capacity will be limited to 300 people with facial coverings and social distancing enforced throughout the bleachers at Tiger Stadium in observance of COVID-19 precautions.

Fan seating will only be allowed in the upper level of the home side or in the visitor bleachers.

Also as part of pandemic precautions concessions will not be available at Tiger Stadium this season; however, fans are allowed to bring in their own food and drink.
