Tigers Advance to GSC Tennis Finals

:30MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The West Alabama women's tennis team advanced to the finals of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament by defeating fourth-seeded Auburn-Montgomery, 4-0, Friday at Lagoon Park.
 
The victory extends fifth-ranked West Alabama's winning streak to 11 matches and leaves the Tigers 16-2 heading into the finals against the #2 seed West Florida at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. AUM, ranked 16th in the nation, exits the tournament with a 10-7 record.
 
After the Tigers and Lady Warhawks split the first two finished doubles matches, Sarah Manseri and Haina Franco defeated Sofia Navarro and Maria Casas, 7-5, at No. 1 to earn the doubles point for West Alabama.
 
Heden Ly, Daryna Hukasian and Hardija Vidnere were winners at No. 3, 4 and 6 singles to clinch the semi-final win for the Tigers. Ly defeated Casas 6-3, 6-1, while Hukasian beat Alba De La Torre 6-3, 6-4 and Vidnere took care of Isabella Pinto 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
 
This will be the second straight finals matchup between West Alabama and West Florida. The Lady Argos defeated UWA, 4-1, in the 2019 GSC finals. The 2020 conference tournament was canceled due to COVD protocols.
 
Ranked seventh nationally, UWF brings a 15-4 record to the finals match with the Tigers. Both UWA and UWF have polished off quarter and semi-final opponents with back-to-back 4-0 scores. West Alabama won the regular season match, 4-3, on April 5 in Pensacola, Florida.
