Thomasville Collegiate Individual Recap

THOMASVILLE, Ga – The University of West Alabama Tennis teams opened its fall schedule at the Thomasville Collegiate Invitational Sept 17th through Sept. 19th.
 
The Tigers competed against three Gulf South Conference teams including Auburn-Montgomery, Valdosta State and West Florida. UWA also competed against two Division l schools, Florida State and South Alabama.
 
The format of the tournament was two singles and one doubles match then the players were alternated. Those who played singles, played doubles, while the doubles played in single play.
 
The women's team beat Valdosta State 2-1, South Alabama 2-1, an unattached team 3-0, West Florida 2-1. The Lady Tigers advanced to the championship match that was canceled due to rain.
 
The men's team lost the first match against Valdosta State 3-0. Then they went on to win against South Alabama 3-0 and against Florida State 2-1. They were winning 1-0 against West Florida when it began to rain.
 
The West Florida match was canceled due to the rain.
 
"This was a great event against some strong opponents and gives us some things to work on this week," UWA head tennis Coach Jeff Beaman said.
 
The Tigers travel to Niceland, Fla. to compete in the ITA Regionals Friday through Sept. 26
