Women’s Soccer Falls to Alabama Huntsville Saturday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama women's soccer team fell to Alabama Huntsville, 1-0, in a non-conference matchup Saturday evening at Tiger Stadium. 

UWA dropped to 3-1-1 overall and stayed at 1-0-0 in GSC play. The Chargers improved to 3-1-1- overall and are 1-0-0 in the conference.
 
UAH scored its only goal of the match in the 29th minute by Helena Gonzalez to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. 

Alabama Huntsville's defense held UWA to a scoreless match to close the game out with a 1-0 victory. 

The Tigers' goalie Tabitha Weldon recorded three saves as she faced 10 shots in the 90 minutes of action. The Chargers goalkeeper Adriana Wright kept the clean sheet for UAH and had seven saves in the matchup. 


Anele Komani and Kaylah Butterworthn each contributed four shots to the 18 shots that were taken. The Tigers held the edge on the Chargers, 18-10, and won the shot on goal battle 7-4. 

There was one yellow card and eight fouls called in the matchup. Alabama Huntsville was called for eight while West Alabama was called for one.

UWA returns to Tiger Stadium October 1 and 3. The Tigers battle Delta State Friday, Oct. 1 with a 5 p.m. kickoff. The match Sunday, Oct. 3 is between UWA and Mississippi College with a 1 p.m. start.
