LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama women's soccer team and the University of Tampa ended in a 0-0 tie after a scoreless second overtime period Sunday morning at the CSU Invitational in Columbus, Georgia.
"It was a fantastic weekend to be able to get away from home and compete against the top two Sunshine State teams," UWA head coach
Graeme Orr said. "I am really happy to have kept two clean sheets and stay unbeaten. We will take great confidence from that into next week."
West Alabama is now 1-0-1 overall and Tampa dropped top 0-1-1.
Tampa logged the first shot of the game off the foot of Katherine Hostage in the 11th minute, but was saved by
Tabitha Weldon.
Weldon recorded six saves in the matchup against the Spartans.
The next shot of the game was taken by
Paige Laidler in the 22nd minute but was saved but Tampa's goalie. Laidler's shot was UWA's only shot attempt in the Tiger Spartan matchup.
The Spartans out shot UWA, 20-1, and won the shots on goal battle, 6-1.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the second overtime period which resulted in a 0-0 tie.
There were three yellow cards and 22 fouls called between the Spartans and the Tigers. Tampa was called for 14 of them while UWA was called for eight.
