Women’s Soccer Hits the Road for a Two-Match GSC Series

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - After coming off another perfect week and staying undefeated at home, the West Alabama women's soccer team will hit the road to play two Gulf South Conference matches this week. 
 
The Tigers are 9-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in GSC play. UWA went undefeated at home for the regular season with a 7-0 record at Tiger Stadium after picking up two home wins against Valdosta State and West Georgia last weekend. 
 
The Tigers face Lee University on Friday at 4 p.m. at Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Flames are 8-2-5 overall and 6-2-3 in the conference. Lee leads the series 8-0. 
 
Dana Cruz continues to put together an impressive season as the sophomore striker leads the team with seven goals and also leads the team with six assists for 20 points. 
 
Paige Laidler is second on the team with five goals, while Mikayla Anderson, Emily Callahan, Aileen CharlesAnna Dickov, and Venla Makela have two goals. 
 
Saylor Richard, a true freshman, has logged the most minutes on defense this season with 1240. Senior Lucy Horn has played 1214 minutes, and Laidler adds 1148 minutes. 
 
Goalie Maria Mon is third on the team in minutes played with 1194 and has had nine wins in goal this season. Mon has made 63 saves and holds a 79.7 save percentage. Mon is ranked third in the GSC in saves. She has three solo shutouts this season and two combined shutouts. 
 
Flames forward Ellie Crisler leads Lee with 14 goals and four assists for 32 points. Crisler is ranked fourth in the GSC in goals and points and 13th in assists. Avery Sides has also passed four assists. Goalie Josie Taylor (6-2-4) has recorded 32 saves and has a 76.2 save percentage. Taylor is ranked sixth in saves in the conference. 
 
UWA closes out the weekend against Shorter on Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon at Ben Brady Field in Rome, Georgia. The Hawks are 0-15-1 overall and are 0-11 in the conference. West Alabama has led the series, 10-1 since 2012. 
 
The Hawks' forward, Ciara Chancon, has scored two goals for four points this season. Freshman Abigail Ulsaker leads the Hawks with one assist. Goalkeeper Katherine Fisher (0-14-1) has recorded 93 saves and holds a 63.3 save percentage.
