Tiger Tennis to Have Busy Weekend at the Vaughan Tennis Complex

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama tennis will host four Gulf South Conference matches and one exhibition match at the Vaughan Tennis Complex on Friday and Sunday with multiple nationally ranked players expected to compete. 
 
On Friday, the Tigers will play against Lee at 11 a.m. in a GSC men's and women's game. The men will play an exhibition match Friday afternoon against Marion Military beginning at 4:30 p.m.  On Sunday, both men and women will square off against Christian Brothers in a GSC matchup with the first serve at 2 p.m. 
 
The forecast calls for sunshine and 70-degree weather for both days. 
 
The UWA women are 9-4 overall and 4-0 in GSC play. and have moved up to No. 9 in the latest Division II Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The Tiger men enter the weekend 5-5 and 2-1. 
 
The No. 17 Lee men's team is 8-3 overall and the Lady Flames are 4-7. CBU's men are 5-10 and the women are 11-2 before its Saturday match against Milsaps. MMI's men enter the weekend 0-6 before playing Wallace State on Thursday. 
 
Haina Franco is ranked No. 12 in the latest women's singles rankings and has an impressive 8-1 record while playing #2 singles. Almudena Sanz moved up to No. 49 in the same poll and is 9-2 in her matches. 
 
In the doubles poll, Franco and Katia de la Garza are ranked No. 8. Heden Ly and Hardija Vidnere come in at No. 12. 
 
Lee's Ashleigh Simes is ranked No. 41 in the poll. Christian Brother's Raquel Amaro is ranked No. 20 in the singles poll.
 
On the men's side, West Alabama's Ilari Vesanen is ranked No. 56 in the men's singles poll and is 5-3 in his solo matches. Lucas Hammond and Marcel Hornung are ranked No. 50 in the men's doubles poll. The duo has put together a 3-1 record while playing together. 
 
Nicolas Ramirez Ribes is ranked No. 21 for Lee in the singles poll and has compiled an 11-4 record. Bruno Medeiros and Ribes are ranked No. 32 in doubles with a 12-2 record.
