Men's Tennis Falls at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – West Alabama men's tennis dropped a road nonconference match at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Friday evening at the Lakeshore Tennis Courts by a score of 4-3. 
 
West Alabama falls to 8-9 overall and UAB moves to 8-14. 
 
"Today was a tough match against a good division I team. We need to get healthy and shift our focus to Montevallo," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said. 
 
The Tigers got off to a good start taking the doubles point by winning two of the three courts. 
 
Ilia Dehodiuk and Nuutti Jokinen took down Parker Bradbary and Vojtech Podzemny 6-4. Patricio Nieto and Loic Danze defeated Nikola Puric and Thanos Spyropoulos 6-4. 
 
In singles, the Blazers took four of the six courts to claim the victory. UWA's Danze defeated Podzemny 6-1, 6-3 to impriove his overall record to 12-2. Nieto beat Martin Vasquez 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to get the third point for West Alabama.  
 
UAB took the remaining courts to get the victory. 
 
West Alabama returns to action on Wednesday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex against Montevallo at 3 p.m. UAB will travel to Jacksonville State on Sunday.
