UWA's Season Ends Against No. 1 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The No. 14th ranked West Alabama women's tennis historical season ended Saturday morning against the No. 1 ranked and four-time defending national champion Barry 4-0 in the NCAA Division II South Regional One Tournament Championship. 
 
"I want to thank the women and everybody that has worked with us for the great year," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said. "The seniors have been amazing, and the returners are committed to keep this going,"
 
The Tigers finish the season with a 20-5 overall record and Barry moves to 24-0 and extends their win streak to 58 straight matches.
 
Barry, who is in their 30th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, took the doubles point by winning courts one and two. Almudena Sanz and Ming Deewajee fell against Jil Engelmann and Helene Scholsen 6-1 at court one. Court two went to Madeline Bosnjak and Deniz Khazan 6-2 who defeated UWA's Katia de la Garza and Haina Franco
 
Singles play began and Deewajee fell to Scholsen 6-1, 6-1 on court four. Valeria Arevalo was defeated by Daniela Farfan 6-1, 6-1 and then Barry clinched the victory when Heden Ly dropped two sets 6-4, 6-3 to Bosnjak. 
 
Barry advances to the Round of 16 and will begin play on May 17th in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The Tigers finish the season with the Gulf South Conference Regular Season Championship, GSC Tournament Championship, and won the programs first match in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament.
