Women's Soccer to Host CBU and Union, Sunday is Cancer Awareness Day

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team will host Christian Brothers on Friday at 5 p.m. and on Sunday against Union at 1 p.m. inside Tiger Stadium in Gulf South Conference play.
 
The UWA men's and women's soccer games on Sunday will be themed "Think Pink" for cancer awareness. The teams will welcome Linda McQueen of Pell City, Alabama. Linda is the grandmother of former UWA men's soccer player and alum Keegan McQueen. In 2019 and 2020 Linda fought cancer undergoing chemo radiation and immunotherapy. She showed tremendous fighting spirit during this time.
 
"Linda and the McQueen family have shown a remarkable level of loyalty and support to both soccer programs during my time at UWA," head women's soccer coach Graeme Orr said. "It is also important to me that our current players meet our supporters and know the difference a boost can make to those who lives' have been impacted by the horrible disease. I cannot thank Linda enough for her personal support and we are excited to see her this Saturday,"
 
The Tigers bring in a 4-4 overall record into the Friday match against Christian Brothers and a 3-2 in GSC play. CBU is 6-3-1 and 3-2-1.
 
Senior Paige Laidler leads UWA with four goal and one assist. Sophomore Dana Cruz has scored three goals and has four assists.
 
Goalkeeper Maria Mon has started all eight games and has 36 saves and has faced 80 shots.
 
Christian Brothers' Cheyenne Smith has scored 12 goals this season with 24 shots-on-goal. Maria Cancio has six assists.
 
Union brings in a 3-6 record and is 2-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs will take on Alabama Huntsville on Friday night prior to making the trip to Livingston.
 
Madison Woolridge and Holly Trisdale have each scored two goals for Union.
 
Both games will be live streamed and offer live stats.
