Wright Throws No-Hitter in Game Three to Sweep GSC Series Against Shorter

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama's softball pitcher Madison Wright threw her fourth no-hitter of the season in the 8-0 shutout over Shorter University Saturday evening at UWA Softball Complex.
 
After sweeping the GSC series, the Tigers moved to 26-8 overall and are now 17-4 in GSC play. The Hawks dropped to 4-31 overall and are 1-19 in the conference. 
 
Wright (15-6) picked up the win in the circle. She struck out three over five innings of work. 
 
Three different Hawks took the circle. Alana Loyd (3-10) was tagged with the loss and gave up four earned runs on six hits over 2.1 innings. Chloe Jones gave up a hit and three earned runs over 1.1 innings of work. Emily Brunson gave up a hit over two outs. 
 
The Tigers used four home runs and a single to score eight runs.
 
Hannah Mynard and Emily Cowart each hit a home run in the second inning to take the 2-0 lead. Cowart hit a two-run homer in the third inning, scoring LP Trammell.
 
In the fourth inning, the Tigers pushed three runs across the plate. Trammell hit a bomb over the left field wall to bring Taylor Clegg and Madison Wright home and take the 7-0 lead. 
 
In the fifth inning, Eleanor De Block's bunt scored Karley McDaniel to end the game and claim the 8-0 five inning run rule win. 
 
Cowart led the Tigers from the plate and went 2-for-2. She had three RBIs and scored two runs. 
 
The Tigers are back at UWA Softball Complex on Tuesday to take on Delta State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
