Men’s Tennis Falls to Lee in Quarterfinals in GSC Championship Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – West Alabama men's tennis team was defeated by the No. 5 Lee University Thursday afternoon 4-0 in quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament.

"Lee fought back and won doubles point which set the tone for the match," head coach Jeff Beaman said. "They are a great team, we both are, they were just the better team today."

In doubles play, Ilari Vesanen and Ilia Dehodiuk defeated LU's Mike Groenendijk and Quinn Groenendijk on court No. 2, 6-2. Wilson Igbinovia and Nuutti Jokinen were defeated on court No. 3 by LU's Drew Johnston and Jordi Dasi, 6-3. LU's Nico Ramirez and Francisco Faria defeated Lucas Hammond and Marcel Hornung on court No. 1, 7-6, clinching the doubles point for the Flames.

In singles play, Hornung was defeated on court No. 1, 6-0, 6-1 by LU's Nico Ramirez. Igbinovia fell to LU's Wihan Van Der Merwe on court No. 4, 6-4, 6-1. Jokinen was defeated on court No. 3 by LU's Jordi Dasi, 6-2, 6-2. Vesanen, Danze, and Hammond went unfinished on their courts.
