Women’s Tennis Defeats CBU to Survive and Advance to the GSC Semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – West Alabama women's tennis team defeated No. 8 seed Christian Brothers Thursday afternoon 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament.

"The women came out strong and took care of business," head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We are ready for a tough match against No. 4 seed Mississippi College."
 
In doubles play, Hardija Vidnere and Heden Ly dominated on court No. 3, sweeping CBU's Ellie Hire and Viktoria Grigoreva, 6-0. Haina Franco and Ming Deewajee defeated CBU's Beatriz Costa and Gabriela Marin, on court No. 1, 6-2, clinching the doubles point for the Tigers. The Takanishi sisters went unfinished on court No. 2.

In singles play, Ly defeated CBU's Fleur Verkyij on court No. 3, 6-1, 6-0. On court No. 4, Vidnere defeated CBU's Gabriela Marin, 6-2, 6-1. Deewajee clinched the overall win for the Tigers on court No. 6, by defeating CBU's Viktoria Grigoreva, 6-4, 6-1. Franco, Yurie Takanishi, and Emiri Takanishi went unfinished.
