Tiger Softball Ends Season at NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament

SAINT LEO, Fla. - West Alabama's softball team took a 1-0 defeat from the No. 2 seed Saint Leo at the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament Friday afternoon at University Softball Field.
 
The Tigers finished their record-breaking season with a 41-14 overall record. The Lions improved to 43-11 and advanced into the tournament. 
 
The Tigers could not get much going on offense. UWA had solid defense with 18 putouts.
 
The Lions had seven hits in the game. They scored their only run in the fourth inning, giving them the 1-0 lead. 
 
In the seventh inning, Kelsie Gilliam reached first on a fielding error by the Lions' shortstop, then got out at second on the shortstop's fielder's choice. The Lions made the last out of the inning to come away with the 1-0 win. 
 
Madison Wright (25-9) took the loss. She gave up one earned run on seven hits and struck out two batters over six innings of work. Kayla Betts (24-5) from Saint Leo secured the win in the circle and pitched the complete game.
