Tiger Softball Takes Down the No. 2 Seed Mississippi College, 4-2

OXFORD, Ala. - West Alabama's softball team defeated the No. 2 seed Mississippi College 4-2 on day two of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament at Choccolocco Park. The Tigers improved to 40-11 overall. UWA handed the Choctaws their ninth loss of the season, dropping to 41-9 overall. 
 
The Tigers are back in action Friday at 6 p.m. at Choccolocco Park and will play the winner of game 10 (No. 6 Seed Montevallo vs. loser of game eight). Game eight is the No. 1 seed Alabama Huntsville vs. the No. 4 seed Auburn Montgomery.
 
Ann Marie Stanbridge led the Tigers from the plate. She went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Taylor Clegg, Riley Sullivan, and Hannah Mynard each had a hit. 
 
The Tigers started the game off with two runs. Gilliam walked. Taylor Clegg reached first on a Choctaw fielding error, while Gilliam advanced to third. Gilliam scored off a wild pitch, while Clegg went to third. Clegg scored off Stanbridge's single. 
 
In the bottom of the third inning, Clegg doubled. Trammell's sacrifice fly scored Clegg, extending the lead to 3-0.
 
With one out left in the fifth inning, Stanbridge hit a solo shot to improve the score to 4-0. 
 
In the top of the sixth inning, the Choctaws used two hits to score one run. In the bottom of the sixth, Mynard had a double but was left on base. Mississippi College tallied three hits in the top of the seventh inning and scored one run to trim the Tigers' lead to 4-2. 
 
Trammell had the last out of the game, allowing the Tigers to claim the 4-2 win over the Choctaws. 
 
Madison Wright (25-7) picked up the win in the circle. She pitched the complete game, giving up two earned runs and striking out two batters. 
 
Camryn Bailey (23-5) took the loss for the Choctaws. She gave up three earned runs on four hits, walked two, and struck out four. Avery Barnett replaced Bailey and pitched the remaining 1.1 innings. Barnett gave up a hit and struck out a batter.
