Women's Soccer Falls in Home Opener to Clayton State

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- Women's Soccer accrued its first loss of the season today in their home opener against Clayton State, losing 1-0 in an offensive struggle.

Clayton State was aggressive in the 1st half, taking 4 shots in the first 27 minutes of play. Tigers Goalie Dior Wilson saved the first shot by CSU's Sprunger-Hightower in the 5th minute of the match. The Lakers would continue to apply pressure with a shot courtesy of CSU's Ida Ditlevsen in the 16th minute, once again saved by exemplary defensive efforts from Dior Wilson.

Despite this, the Lakers' Lois Beer would take another crack at it seconds later but was blocked by a Tiger defender. 11 minutes later in the 27th minute, Beer would fire off another one, but miss high.

Not much changed for the Tigers in the second half, who struggled to find an offensive rhythm, only taking 3 shots in the match, all in the 2nd 45. The Lakers would find the net early in the 2nd half, with Serwaah Danso scoring in the 49th minute, courtesy of an assist by Sprunger-Hightower.

Amelia Vasquez would take the Tigers' first shot of the game, missing high in the 74th minute. Paige Laidler's shot in the 84th minute was saved by Lakers Goalie Lisa Kelm, followed by a Venla Makela shot missing wide right in the 86th minute.

The Tigers fall to 0-1-1, while the Lakers moved up to 1-0-1. The Tigers will travel to Columbus, Georgia on Wednesday to take on Lions of Saint Leo. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. CT.
