Women's Soccer Hosts West Florida on Senior Day Friday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama Tigers (3-7-3, 2-5-3) gear up for Senior Day as they welcome the top-seeded West Florida Argonauts (10-1-3, 8-0-2) for an intense matchup at home this Friday, November 1st, at 5:00 pm.

This clash represents both a celebration and a challenge, as the Tigers aim to honor their seniors and build on recent performances against formidable opponents.

West Florida comes in with dominant stats across the board, having scored 32 goals this season and holding opponents to only eight, averaging a stellar 2.29 goals per game. The Argonauts' defense also remains a stronghold with 130 shots on target, supported by 32 saves from their goalkeepers, keeping opposing offenses at bay. Key players to watch include Mya Swinton, leading West Florida with eight goals, and Emma Beltz with five goals and five assists.

West Alabama's resilient defense, led by senior goalkeeper Dior Wilson, will be pivotal as they face West Florida's high-scoring attack. Wilson has recorded 75 saves this season with a 0.824 save percentage, a testament to her impact on the goal. Offensively, Aileen Charles stands out with three goals for the Tigers, while Amy Denholm and Lily Graham contribute to the offense with combined goals and assists.

The Tigers will recognize six senior players, including Wilson, who has accumulated 155 career saves and nine shutouts. Seniors Leahmae Keogh, Laila Hepworth, Abbey Roberts, Rachel Soto, and Amy Denholm will also take the field, marking their contributions in assists, defensive plays, and leadership for UWA.

As West Alabama's seniors seek to leave a lasting mark, the Tigers will need a cohesive effort to halt West Florida's well-rounded lineup. Fans can anticipate an inspiring display of teamwork and determination as the Tigers aim to secure a victory on this significant day.

After Senior Day on Friday, West Alabama will wrap up the 2024 regular season on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup against Spring Hill. The Badgers come into this weekend's matchup ninth in the GSC with a 6-7-5 overall record and a 3-5-2 record in conference play. The Badgers have scored 20 goals this season, while allowing 22 and are led by their starting forward, Poppy Binding. Binding sits second in the GSC in goals with seven along with three assists, propelling the redshirt senior to 17 points this season which also ranks second in the GSC.
