LIVINGSTON, Ala. - In an emotional Senior Day match, West Alabama women's soccer made a valiant effort but ultimately fell 3-2 to No. 11 West Florida.
The Tigers struck early, with
Aileen Charles scoring her fourth goal of the season in the 13th minute off an assist from
Emily Djagbare.
Leahmae Keogh then added to West Alabama's lead in the 36th minute, netting her first goal of the season with a timely assist from
Rachel Soto.
West Florida responded quickly, tying the match at 1-1 in the 26th minute with a goal by Emma Beltz, assisted by Megan Gettys. Beltz continued to shine for the Argonauts, ultimately securing the victory with her second goal of the match in the 90th minute, assisted by Mya Swinton. In the second half, West Florida's Ahnalie Layman scored in the 52nd minute to bring the game to 2-2.
Despite the loss, West Alabama delivered an impressive performance, with five of their six shots on target. The Tigers' defense stayed active, managing four saves against West Florida's 16 total shots. West Alabama concludes the match with a 3-8-3 (2-6-3 GSC) record as they pridefully close out their home season.
Their next and final game of the regular season will be Sunday, November 3
rd, at Spring Hill, with the first kick scheduled for 1 pm.
