No. 10 Softball Drops Doubleheader to Auburn Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The No. 10 University of West Alabama softball team fell to Auburn University at Montgomery in game one of its series, 10-0, and game two, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex.

GAME ONE: Auburn Montgomery 10, West Alabama 0
AUM hit early and often, including a three-run homer from Molly Cob to force the run-rule.

The Warhawks' Pitcher Alanna Goble was a force to be reckoned with, striking out ten batters and allowing a hit in five innings pitched.

Despite having two in scoring position in the top of the fifth thanks to a Kelsie Gilliam double, the Tigers were unable to bring them around to break the shut out.

GAME TWO: Auburn Montgomery 4, West Alabama 3
UWA came out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Emily Cowart, allowing Riley Sullivan to score.

Marissa Mitchell extended the Tiger lead in the top of the fourth, hitting a two-run homer to make it a 3-0 ball game.

Despite AUM's attempts to get on base through the first four innings, Eleanor De Block shut the bats down at the right time, allowing only one hit.

Unfortunately, Gia Martin broke the silence in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a two-RBI double into left center, making it a one-run game.

The Tiger bats went quiet for the remainder of the contest, with AUM's starter allowing zero hits from the UWA offense.

Martin took the wind out of the West Alabama sails in the bottom of the seventh, hitting a walk off two-run homer to steal a 4-3 win out from under the Tigers.

West Alabama falls to 12-5 overall and 4-4 in Gulf South Conference play. Auburn Montgomery advances to 14-5 and 5-3.

The Tigers and Warhawks will conclude their series on Sunday at noon from the AUM Softball Complex.
