LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama softball team was defeated by No. 10 Mississippi College, 4-3, at the UWA Softball Complex Friday evening.
Despite a one-out hit by pitch, Madison Wright recorded her first strikeout of the contest to close out the top of the first, retiring McCall Lee.
After a Taylor Clegg double in the bottom half of the frame, Marissa Mitchell hit her 14th home run of the season to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Ann Marie Stanbridge added to the UWA lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 3-0.
After a pair of base hits courtesy of Lee and Brookelyn Cannon, Ashley Lightcap evened the playing field, 3-3, for the Choctaws with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning.
The Lady Choctaws took the lead in the top of the sixth inning off a Tiger error that allowed Lightcap to score from second base.
The Tigers' defense held in the top of the seventh by retiring the side, capped off by a Wright strikeout.
Despite the defensive stand, the offense could not counter, as Mississippi College shut down West Alabama in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the game one victory.
Marissa Mitchell led the way for UWA with two RBIs.

The Lady Choctaws' pitching staff combined for seven strikeouts, With Camryn Bailey earning her 14th win of the season, pitching 2.2 innings in relief to close the game.
West Alabama falls to 20-12 overall and 9-10 in Gulf South Conference play. Mississippi College advances to 25-5 and 11-5.
The Tigers and Lady Choctaws will conclude the series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex.
