No. 7 Women's Tennis Blanks CBU in GSC Quarterfinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 7 University of West Alabama women's tennis team took no time to advance to the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Championship with a 4-0 shutout of Christian Brothers University, Saturday afternoon from Lagoon Park. 

The top seed in the tournament, UWA improves to 15-8 on the season. CBU ends its season at 9-12. 

The Tigers only allowed two games to the Lady Buccanners in doubles. Khim Iglupas and Heden Ly (13-3) blanked Chelsea Dzenga / Raheen Taranum at the No. 2 flight, while Shaira Rivera and Hardija Vidnere (13-4) rolled to a 6-2 win at the No. 1 flight to get out to the 1-0 match lead. 

In singles, Ly (10-9) picked up her fourth win in a row with a shutout of Viktoriia Grigoreva at the No. 2 flight. 

Vidnere (10-9) and Emiri Takanishi (11-10) also earned wins in singles to clinch the match for the Tigers. 

West Alabama advances to its eighth semifinal appearance in GSC Championship history, including four straight and six in the last seven years. 

The Tigers will await their opponent on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The matchup will be between West Florida or Mississippi College in the 4/5 matchup.
