Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 3 Valdosta State in GSC Semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After a triumphant quarterfinal victory against AUM on Saturday afternoon, The University of West Alabama men's tennis team's postseason run ended on Sunday morning as the Tigers fell to the Blazers of Valdosta State University in the semifinal round 4-0 at Lagoon Park.

Nuutti Jokinen and Caden Goldammer got the Tigers rolling early with a 6-2 victory over No. 31 Jan Skerbatis and Boruch Skuerkier in the No. 3 doubles flight.

The Blazers bounced back in the No. 2 flight, taking a 6-2 victory over Wilson Igbinovia and Eita Ishikawa.

No. 40 Lucas Hammond and Jacob Tapia gave No. 7 Luca Mack and Rodrigo Carvalho a run for their money in a back-to-back contest. Unfortunately for the UWA duo, VSU took the doubles point with a 7-6 victory.

The Tigers struggled in singles, falling in all three completed flights in straight sets.

West Alabama finishes the year with an 8-13 overall record. Valdosta State, ranked third in the country, moves to 19-3 and will play in the Championship round Monday morning.
