Men’s Tennis Defeated by No. 28 Auburn Montgomery

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama men's tennis team fell to No. 28 Auburn University
Montgomery, 5-2, at the Vaughan Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon.

Lucas Hammond and Jacob Tapia (7-3) started off doubles play on a high note, taking down Alex Verdasco and Agustin Marquez 6-1 in the top flight.

Despite AUM clinching the doubles point by winning flights two and three, Vilislav Bonev and Caden Goldammer took No. 34 Titouan Le Maout and Adrian Contreras to the wire in the No. 3 flight, falling 7-5.

The Warhawks held control throughout singles action, winning four of six matches over the Tigers.

Wilson Igbinovia (6-6) took down Giuseppe Bonaiuti in the No. 2 flight in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

Jacob Tapia (7-2) and Agustin Marquez went toe-to-toe in the No. 6 spot, with Tapia taking the win in three sets.

"We competed well against a very good AUM team. This match was closer than the score indicates and could have gone either way in the end," said assistant coach Jose Bendeck.

West Alabama falls to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in Gulf South Conference play. Auburn Montgomery rises to 11-7 and 6-1.

The Tigers will take on No. 30 Lee on Friday in Livingston. The first serve is set for 1 p.m.
