LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Riding a six-match win streak, the West Alabama Tigers women's soccer look to keep their momentum rolling as they travel to Huntsville, Alabama, to take on Alabama Huntsville on Friday, October 24th. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Charger Park.
The Tigers (9-2-2 overall, 6-2-1 GSC) enter the weekend ranked third in the Gulf South Conference standings, while UAH (5-8-3, 4-5-3 GSC) sits in sixth. West Alabama continues to build on one of its best runs in recent years, while the Chargers look to bounce back from a two-match losing streak.
West Alabama's success this season has been built around its strong defensive unit and efficient attack. The Tigers have allowed only five goals all season, posting a league-leading 0.38 goals-against average. Freshman goalkeeper
Yumari Hernandez has been outstanding, recording 47 saves, a .904 save percentage, and an impressive nine shutouts through 13 matches.
Offensively, senior forward
Selis Demirci leads the charge with 10 goals and one assist for 21 total points, including six game-winners, three of which have come from the penalty spot.
Bailee Fairley and
Aileen Charles added depth to the attack, combining for three goals and three assists. As a team, UWA is averaging 1.23 goals per game on 11.5 shots per match.
UAH has been competitive this season but has struggled for consistency. The Chargers average 1.00 goals per game, led by Jayla Gillespie (five goals, two assists) and Sabrina Da Silva (four goals). Defensively, the Chargers have allowed 20 goals through 16 matches, with goalkeeper CeCe Szopa making 46 saves and recording three shutouts.
While UAH averages more total shots per match (13.4) than West Alabama, the Tigers hold the edge in finishing efficiency and defensive stability, ranking among the top defensive teams in the region.
Friday's contest marks the Tigers' final regular-season road trip before returning home for the closing stretch of conference play. A win would give UWA its seventh straight victory, the longest unbeaten streak since 2019, when
the Tigers went on an 8-0-1 lossless streak from Sept. 29 to Oct. 27, and strengthen its position in the GSC standings as postseason play approaches.
Kickoff between West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville is set for 5 p.m. Friday, October 24th, from Charger Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
