FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Cross Country teams completed the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday.
UWA's Women's team placed 13th with a score of 349 in the 5K event while the Men's squad placed 25th with a 627 score in the 8K.
WOMEN'S TEAM - 13th placeÂ
As a team, the Tigers averaged a 20:58.80 time, led by Mercy Lomuria who finished in 19:12.7 which was good enough for an 18th overall placement. Following Lomuria's lead, Miriam Dominguez-Tellez crossed the line in 19:49.8, placing 41st while Rita Walker finished 46th with a time of 20:01.8.Â
To round out the Tigers, Laurel Morse registered a time of 21:58.8 while Autumn Sansing crossed the finish line in 23:50.9.
MEN'S TEAM - 25th Place
West Alabama's Men's team recorded an average team time of 26:25.45 in the 8K event. Mathis Breton led the way with a 25:29.9 time, with Gary Mata being the next Tiger to finish with a 26:05.4 time. Less than 30 seconds later, freshman Lorenzo Pelusi crossed the line, turning in a 26:32.6 time, followed by Sha'Kenye Darden's 26:54.1 time.Â
To close out the event, Jentzen Moore recorded a 27:05.3 time, Julian Council finished in 27:43.6, and Ray Englebert clinched a 27:54.6 time.
West Alabama will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Huntsville for the Chargers XC Invitational, hosted by UAH.Â
