Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 6 Argonauts in Regular Season Finale

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team closed out its regular season on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 on the road to No. 6 West Florida at the UWF Soccer Complex.

With the result, the Tigers finish the regular season with a 10-3-3 overall record and 7-3-2 mark in Gulf South Conference play, while the undefeated Argonauts improved to 15-0-2 overall and 11-0-1 in the GSC.

West Florida took the early lead in the eighth minute, when Olof Thorvaldsdottir found the back of the net for her 10th goal of the season off an assist from Mya Swinton. Despite the early setback, the Tigers' defense held firm for much of the match, keeping the Argos' potent offense in check through the remainder of the first half and well into the second.

The Argonauts broke through again late, doubling their lead in the 83rd minute as Megan Gettys converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0. Just 12 seconds later, Sofia Hasler added an insurance goal to seal the 3-0 final.

West Alabama was outshot 16-5 overall and 9-3 in shots on goal, while West Florida also held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez recorded six saves in another strong performance between the posts for UWA. Offensively, Bailee FairleyAynzlie Nelson, and Holly Gillies each placed shots on target, while Emily Callahan and Fairley added two total shot attempts apiece.

The Tigers now turn their focus to the postseason, as they prepare to host a Gulf South Conference Tournament Quarterfinal match on Saturday, November 8th. The opponent and kickoff time will be announced at a later date.
