GAME 2: West Alabama 6, Florida Tech 0
Haley Shannon and Taylor Clegg jumpstarted UWA against Florida Tech as Shannon singled and stole second before Clegg hit a double, putting runners at second and third with no one out to begin the game. Mitchell drove in Shannon before Stanbridge collected an RBI-single, scoring Clegg.
Eleanor De Block was on the mound for West Alabama and pitched a gem. The junior breezed through the first two innings before her offense gave her additional run support.
The Tigers struck for two runs in the top of the third with Stanbridge picking up her second and third RBI of the contest courtesy of a two-run single that scored Mitchell and Shannon.Â
Now working with a 4-0 lead, De Block got back to work on the mound and carved through the Panthers in the third and fourth innings, not allowing any hits while striking out a pair of Florida Tech batters.
Still leading 4-0, Stanbridge continued to rack up her RBI total as the First Baseman drove in Mitchell via a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning before registering another sacrifice-fly in the seventh that scored Clegg, giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead, going into the final frame.
In the bottom of the seventh, De Block sat Florida Tech down 1-2-3 to secure a 6-0 win for UWA.
De Block pitched all seven innings, collecting five strikeouts and only allowing four hits. Offensively, Stanbridge recorded five RBIs, which tied her career-high, while Clegg and Shannon both registered three hits.
