Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Tennis team dropped their GSC contest to the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks, 4-3, on Sunday.
West Alabama (2-3, 0-2 GSC) took an early lead over AUM (1-2, 1-0 GSC) as the Tigers won the doubles point.
The duos of Afonso Portugal/Tomas Almeida, Federico Iturbe/Jacob Tapia, and Vilislav Bonev/Eita Ishikawa helped UWA sweep the doubles contest, winning 7-6, 7-5, and 6-3, respectively.
In singles play, Tapia and Bonev picked up the lone wins for West Alabama. Tapia was victorious in Line Three, defeating Jami Savolainen in straight sets (6-3, 7-6). Bonev followed Tapia's win with one of his own as he edged Augustin Wallaert, (7-5, 3-6, 6-1) to garner the third point in the match for the Tigers.
Ishikawa and Portugal both dropped three set nail biters while Almeida and Iturbe fell in straight sets.
West Alabama will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Memphis, Tennessee for a matchup against Christian Brothers.
