LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's tennis team is set for a challenging weekend with three non-conference matchups at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas.
The Tigers (2-3, 0-2 GSC) will face Cameron University on Friday, February 28 at 11 a.m., UT Tyler on Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m., and Midwestern State on Sunday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
West Alabama is looking to bounce back after a tough stretch in conference play. The Tigers have found success in doubles competition, boasting an 11-3 overall record in dual matches. The pairing of
Federico Iturbe and
Jacob Tapia remains undefeated at 4-0, while
Eita Ishikawa and
Vilislav Bonev have been dominant at the No. 3 doubles slot with a 2-0 record.
In singles, Bonev leads the charge with an undefeated 5-0 record, while
Tomas Almeida and Iturbe have each posted 3-2 marks. Tapia (2-1) and Ishikawa (2-3) will also look to add to their win totals.
Cameron University (0-1) enters the weekend with limited action so far this season. The Aggies' singles victories have come from Lukas Janousek, Noe Milliard, and Raphael Valente, all posting 1-0 records. Doubles play has been a struggle for Cameron, as they remain winless in two matches.
#16 UT Tyler (3-0) presents a significant challenge as an undefeated squad. The Patriots have been particularly strong in doubles play, sweeping their last opponent. Carel Wessel has led UT Tyler in singles, securing a three-set victory at the No. 1 position in their most recent match.
#19 Midwestern State, another strong opponent, will test West Alabama's depth and endurance in the final match of the weekend. The Mustangs have a history of being a competitive force in the region. Especially from stellar play from Filip Vacula, posting 2-1 singles record this season.
West Alabama will aim to capitalize on its doubles success while seeking crucial singles victories to return home with momentum. Live updates and results will be available on the UWA athletics website and social media platforms throughout the weekend.
