Tennis Sweeps Golden Tigers in Saturday Afternoon Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Tennis Program completed the sweep over Tuskegee on Saturday with the Men winning 7-0 while the Women were victorious, 6-1.

"The Women had a good fight today and were able to adjust to not only the wind that came in but also some changes in pace from a dynamic Tuskegee team," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "Our Men got the win today, but looking to improve overall as a team as we go into next week."

MEN'S TENNIS
West Alabama began the match by winning the doubles points as the duos of Tomas Almeida/Eita Ishikawa, Jacob Tapia/Federico Iturbe, and Vilislav Bonev/Sebastiao Vilas all secured doubles wins.

In Singles play, Ishikawa occupied Line One and breezed through Tuskegee's Zamani Mayo, (6-1,6-1) while Almeida did the same in Line Two, winning (6-1,6-3). Portugal was slotted into Line Three and won the first set against Kevin Eutsey, 6-0 before Eutsey battled in the second. While the second set was a lot more competitive than the first, Portugal still pulled out a 7-5 set win to take the match.

In Lines Four, Five, and six, UWA's Iturbe, Vilas, and Bonev dominated as the trio only combined to drop three games as West Alabama Men's team cruised to a 7-0 victory.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Much like the Men's team, UWA's Women's team took the doubles points courtesy of match wins from Shaira Rivera/Valentina Mutilba, Emiri Takanishi/Greta Zawels, and Ximena Ku/Abrianna Irvin

In Line One singles, Rivera dominated the first set but injured her hip in the second. The Tigers' star battled through her injury to pull out a (6-1, 6-4) win over Tanyaradzwa Kaome. In Line Two, Multiba handled her business, (6-3, 6-1) to remain perfect in singles play while Takanishi made quick work in Line Three, winning (6-0, 6-1). To round out the day, Zawels was victorious (6-2, 6-3) in Line Four while Ku took home a (6-4, 6-2) decision.

With tomorrow's scheduled matchup against Columbus State being postponed, West Alabama will be back in next week when they open up conference play against Montevallo.
