Men’s Tennis Extends Win Streak to Three in Massive Win over Ouachita Baptist

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Team extended their winning streak to three on Saturday after a 6-1 win over Ouachita Baptist.

"Today was a really good day," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "We had a great attitude and great effort which led to a really good result."

West Alabama (5-7) began the day, by winning Doubles point with the duos of Tomas Almeida/Afonso Portugal, Francisco Oliveira/Eita Ishikawa, and Federico Iturbe/Jacob Tapia all winning their respective doubles contests to give UWA a 1-0 lead. The tandem of Almeida and Portugal continue to make waves nationally as they took down the number two ranked doubles pairing in the country, in Ouachita Baptist's Phil Exner and Ramon Strassmann.

The Tigers extended their lead and created real separation from Ouachita Baptist in singles play. In Line One, Oliveira defeated the number one ranked singles player in the nation, Phil Exner, (6-1,6-4) in straights sets to set the tone.

Ishikawa and Almeida followed suit in Lines Three and Five as both handled their match with relative ease, winning in straight sets. Tapia and Iturbe found themselves in battles in Lines Four and Six. Tapia outlasted Buss Moritz, (6-1, 6-7, 1-0) while Iturbe took down Mueller Tinus (7-5, 3-6, 1-0) in a marathon.

"We need to keep this momentum rolling, heading into our match with Columbus State," Beaman closed.

After their massive win on Saturday, the West Alabama Men gear up for a matchup against Columbus State on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m.
