Women’s Tennis Captures GSC Regular Season Title with Win over Choctaws

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team captured another GSC Regular Season Championship on Wednesday, after defeating the Mississippi College Choctaws, 4-3.

With their win over the Choctaws on Wednesday, UWA Women's Tennis has now been crowned GSC Regular Season Champions for six consecutive years.

"This was a competitive match that could've gone either way," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "I'm really proud of this team for how they stepped up and did what they needed to do."

West Alabama (13-5, 8-0 GSC) began their historic day, by sweeping the doubles point. All three matches were competitive as Shaira Rivera/Valentina Mutilba and Lolita Hukasian/Greta Zawels won 7-5, while Alexa Milliam/Emiri Takanishi secured a 7-6 victory.

In singles, Rivera dominated as the Senior was the first to finish, defeating Mississippi College's Emma Roberts, (6-1, 6-3). In Line Two, Milliam bounced back from a first set loss to register a (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) win against Jules De Mata to move to 15-0 on the season. Mutilba clinched the victory for the Tigers in Line Three as the sophomore defeated Martinez in straight sets, (7-6, 6-4).

West Alabama will close out their regular season on Saturday with a matchup against Saint Leo, before turning their attention to the GSC Tournament which is set to begin next Thursday.

"Now it's all about closing out the regular season the right way against a good Saint Leo team on Saturday and getting healthy and pumped up for the GSC Tournament," Beaman closed.
