LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Tennis team dropped a hard fought match against Mississippi College, 4-3, on Wednesday.
Before the match began, West Alabama (6-12, (2-6 GSC) honored their seniors, Francisco Oliveira, Tomas Almeida, and Eita Ishikawa.
UWA dropped all three of the doubles matches, but played much better in singles to make Wednesday afternoon's contest a competitive one.
Ishikawa picked up a Senior Day win on Line Two as he defeated Rafael Sabio, (6-3, 6-2). Federico Iturbe followed suit with a clean straight sets victory in Line Four, taking care of Gustavo Tedesco, (6-2, 6-2). In Line Three, Almeida also picked up a Senior Day victory and registered the final win of the afternoon for the Tigers with a (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) decision over Florian Welcher.
"Today wasn't about the score, it was how we competed and we took a step forward," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "We can be a great team and took a step in the right direction but we still have a ways to go."
West Alabama will conclude their regular season on Saturday with a matchup against Saint Leo.
