Rodeo Heads to Mississippi for Northwest Mississippi CC Rodeo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Rodeo Program is all set for the Northwest Mississippi CC Rodeo that is slated to begin on Thursday.

West Alabama comes into the weekend off the heels of a stellar performance at UT Martin where the Men's Team picked up their second win with 690 points while the Women's Team finished second with 215 points. After a pair of standout performances, the Women remain atop the Ozark Region Rankings and 15th in the country while the Men sit in second in the Region and 12th in the nation.

MEN'S RODEO:
As they make their way into Mississippi, West Alabama brings the top ranked Men's All-Around competitor in the Region with them in the form of Tanner Brown. Brown currently leads the Ozark Region with 1,645 points this season and enters the weekend after accumulating an event-high 170 points in the Team Roping Event at UT Martin's Rodeo. Brown is also the No. 1 ranked Tie Down Roper and Team Roper Heeler in the country, securing 775 points in the Tie Down Roping Event and 870.5 points as a Heeler.  Clarke Gordon and Cooper Cowan are exceptional in the Team Roping as well as the duo occupies the top two spots in the region. Gordon leads the way with 870.5 points while Cowan sits right behind him with 795 points.

Wilder Andrews, Evan Bourdon, Stone Reeves, and Kota Wilhite are all important and impactful pieces to the Tigers' puzzle and will play a large part in this weekend's action.

WOMEN'S RODEO:
With the mix of experienced and young talent on UWA's roster, the potential is untapped for the Tigers. Ashley Henderson and Sydney Poole lead the way for West Alabama as the duo is filtered throughout the individual rankings. Poole is the All-Around leader in the Region with a total of 708.33 points. Poole specializes in the Barrel Racing as the senior holds 420 points in the event which is good enough for second in the Region. As for Henderson, she is the top Breakaway Roper in the Ozark Region, holding 425 points in the event. Henderson led UWA to a plethora of wins in the Fall season and is set to impress again this weekend.

While Poole and Henderson lead the way, Joanna Hammett and Meah Pinter are exceptional as well. Hammett enters the Northwest Mississippi CC Rodeo after accumulating 160 in the Goat Tying event last weekend, moving her to 685 total points in the event which ranks second in the Ozark. Pinter also excels in the Goat Tying event as she ranks third with 426 points. Sarah Curl is in the mix for the Tigers as well as the freshman sits seventh in the Goat Tying with 319 points.

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Rodeo is set to begin on Thursday with the event concluding on Saturday.
