MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team fell in the GSC Championship to the Mississippi College Choctaws, 4-2.
West Alabama (16-6) fell one match away from a GSC Tournament title after defeating Mississippi College (20-6) for the GSC Regular Season Championship on Wednesday, April 16. 
The Tigers began the match, by winning the doubles point. The tandems of Alexa Milliam/Emiri Takanishi and Greta Zawels/Lolita Hukasian were victorious on Lines Two and Three with scores of 6-3 and 7-5.
In singles play, Alexa Milliam continued her flawless season, finishing her match before anyone else. Milliam defeated the Choctaws' Rocio Azcarraga Martinez, (6-3, 6-3) in just over an hour of play. 
While Valentina Mutilba and Takanishi dropped their singles matches, Hukasian and Zawels battled in Lines Five and Six. Hukasian ended up on the wrong side of a (6-4, 6-3) decision while Zawels held a (6-3, 6-7, 5-2) lead before her match was halted.
With the match up for grabs, Shaira Rivera dealt with some adversity in Line One against Emma Roberts. The senior dropped her first set, 5-7 and injured her hip in the second set. Rivera fought through her injured and pushed Roberts to a tiebreaker in the second set but ultimately fell, (5-7, 6-7) which clinched the match for Mississippi College. 
West Alabama will now await the NCAA Selection show to see who they will face in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
