Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The West Alabama Women's Tennis team handed the Lee Flames their first loss of the season on Saturday with a 5-2 win on the road while the Tigers' Men's team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Flames.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
To begin the match, West Alabama swept the doubles point led by the number one ranked doubles duo, Shaira Rivera and Valentina Mutilba. Rivera and Mutilba dominated their matchup in Line One, winning 6-1 which was followed by tough wins from Alexa Milliam/Emiri Takanishi and Greta Zawels/Lolita Hukasian who both pulled out 7-5 victories.
The Tigers carried their momentum from doubles play into singles, winning four of the six matches. Hukasian got West Alabama started with a clean (6-0, 6-1) win in Line Five which was followed by a competitive and impressive (1-6, 6-3, 6-1) victory by Milliam in Line Two. To cap off a colossal win for the Tigers, Takanishi and Zawels secured three set wins in Lines Four and Six.
"Today was a battle against a really tough Lee team," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "The match could've went either way and I'm really proud of our effort."
MEN'S TENNIS
It was a tough day for the Men's team as the Tigers took home one individual victory. UWA couldn't secure a win in doubles while Jacob Tapia picked up the lone win of the day for West Alabama in singles. Tapia defeated Lee's Quinn Groenendijk (2-6, 7-6, 6-2) to secure his seventh win of the year.
West Alabama will be back in action on Tuesday when they dip out of conference play for a matchup against North Georgia.
