MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of West Alabama cross country teams put together standout performances at the Falcon Classic on Friday, racing against a strong field that featured Division I programs and fellow Gulf South Conference rivals. The Tigers rose to the challenge, with the men's team finishing second out of 18 teams and the women's team placing fifth out of 13 teams.
In the women's 5K race, Mercy Lomuria once again led the charge for UWA, posting a third-place overall finish with a time of 18:27.61. She was joined in the top 20 by Miriam Dominguez-Tellez, who earned 18th place at 20:04.37 to help secure the Tigers' team standing.
The men's 8K was highlighted by tightly packed group, as seven Tigers placed inside the top 25 to power their runner-up team finish:
Facing both Division I competition and familiar GSC opponents, the Falcon Classic proved to be one of the most competitive races of the early season. UWA's ability to claim second place out of 18 teams on the men's side and a top five finish out of 13 teams on the women's side underscores the Tigers' depth and growing strength as the season progresses.
West Alabama will return to action on Saturday, September 20th at the Firehawk Invitational in Danville, AL.
