Tigers Open GSC Play with Home Weekend Against Trojans, No. 13 Flames

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team is set to begin Gulf South Conference play this weekend with back-to-back home matches at the UWA Track and Soccer Complex. The Tigers host Trevecca Nazarene in a "Red Out" game on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. before taking on nationally ranked No. 13 Lee on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. for "Youth Day."

West Alabama (3-0-1) enters league play unbeaten and unscored upon through its first four matches. The Tigers have outscored opponents 6-0, averaging 1.50 goals per game while limiting opponents to just 7.8 shots per contest. Leading the attack are Bailee Fairley and Selis Demirci, who each have two goals on the season, while Tiana Trahan and Emily Callahan have also found the back of the net.

Anchoring the Tigers defensively is freshman goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez, who has been a force in net. The two-time reigning GSC Freshman of the Week has posted four consecutive shutouts to start her collegiate career, making 17 saves on 31 shots faced for a perfect 1.000 save percentage.

Trevecca Nazarene (2-2-0) enters Thursday's matchup coming off a balanced start to its season. The Trojans have scored six goals across four matches, led by Anna Farrell with two goals and one assist. In goal, Bailie Fiore has started every match, recording 10 saves with a 1.75 goals-against average.

Saturday's test brings an even bigger challenge in No. 13 Lee (2-0-1), one of the Gulf South's perennial contenders. The Flames have been efficient in the attack with nine goals in their first three matches, powered by Alaysia Nye's four goals. Goalkeeper Abby Whitcomb has allowed just four goals while making 13 saves to guide Lee to a national ranking.

The Tigers look to ride their defensive momentum into conference play and protect home turf against two competitive opponents.
