DANVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's cross country team delivered a dominant performance at the Firehawk Invitational, claiming the number one spot in the 8K with seven runners finishing inside the top 20. The women's team also turned in a solid effort, placing sixth overall in the 6K.
The Tigers set the tone early on the men's side, packing the front of the field with multiple standout finishes. Mathis Breton led the charge with a fifth-place finish in 26:01.1, followed closely by two more Tigers in the top 10.
Top Men's Finishers:
UWA's depth was on full display as Jentzen Moore (12th, 26:29.1), Jonathan Phillips (14th, 26:32.9), Julian Council (16th, 26:40.5), and Sha'Kenye Darden (20th, 26:48.4) all secured top-20 finishes to seal the victory.
On the women's side, Mercy Lomuria once again paced the Tigers with a seventh-place finish in 22:42.4, while Miriam Dominguez-Tellez added a strong showing of her own in 29th place (24:28.2) to help UWA earn a sixth-place team result.
The Tigers will have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Chile Pepper XC Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
