Tigers Battle Bulldogs to Scoreless Draw on Senior Day

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team battled Union University to a 0-0 draw Sunday morning at the UWA Soccer Field on Senior Day.

The Tigers move to 1-8-2 overall and 0-6-2 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Bulldogs move to 3-3-5 overall and 3-0-5 in conference action.

West Alabama honored seniors Holly Gillies and Santanna O'Grady before kickoff, recognizing their contributions to the Tigers' soccer program.

Goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez delivered a strong performance between the posts, recording 12 saves to help the Tigers secure the shutout. Hernandez faced 21 shots from the Bulldogs, including 12 on goal, and turned away every attempt to keep Union off the scoreboard.

The Tigers weathered pressure throughout the match, with Hernandez making six saves in each half. West Alabama's defensive effort proved crucial as Union continued to search for an opening goal.

West Alabama recorded five shots, including two on goal, while working to find a breakthrough against the Bulldogs' defense.

Kya Jacobs recorded two shots for the Tigers, while Isabella Frullaney and Allie Kimbrell each put a shot on target. Frullaney's attempt in the 56th minute and Kimbrell's effort in the 85th minute were both saved by Union goalkeeper Antia Lopez Rodriguez.

Union finished with a 21-5 advantage in shots and a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, while West Alabama committed eight fouls to Union's five.

Despite the difference in offensive chances, the Tigers remained organized defensively and held the Bulldogs scoreless through 90 minutes to earn the draw.

The Tigers return to the UWA Soccer Field on Wednesday, October 14, to host Montevallo in their final home match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. as West Alabama looks to close its home slate with a strong performance.
