LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Tennis team is set to return home on Tuesday for a matchup against William Carey at 2:00 p.m.
The West Alabama Men (3-0) and Women (2-1) both enter the contest after a double header sweep over Division I Alabama State. As for William Carey, the Lady Crusaders' (1-0) come into play after a 7-0 win over Louisiana Christian while the Men's team (0-0) is set to open up their 2026 campaign against the Tigers.
UWA is on fire to begin the year, highlighted by their monumental win over Alabama State on Saturday. On the Men's side for West Alabama, Gabriel Garay, Federico Iturbe, Itaru Kikuchi, Afonso Portugal, and Jacob Tapia are all undefeated in singles play while the doubles duo of Iturbe/Tapia, Maksim Goncharov/Portugal and Garay/Sebastiao Vilas are unbeaten in doubles play.
For the Tigers' women squad, they remain the fifth ranked team in the country with their lone loss of the year coming against Samford. Shaira Rivera, Valentina Mutilba, and Jenaila Prulla are anchoring UWA in singles play as the trio is a combined 9-0 on the season. Rivera and Alexa Milliam have dazzled on Line One Doubles, carrying a 2-0 record into Tuesday's play.
William Carey's Women's Tennis team finished the 2025 season with a 15-2 record and began their 2026 campaign with a clean sweep over Louisiana Christian. The Lady Crusaders returned most of their roster from a year ago, led by Malak Abarkane, JiAn Kang, and Tiffany Chang. The trio of Abarkane, Kang, and Chang combined for a 32-3 record in 2025, with Kang putting together a perfect 12-0 record on Line Two.
William Carey's Men's Team also went 15-2 last season. The Crusaders went 74-12 in singles matches on the year and return their No. 1 singles player in Islam Orynbassar. Orynbassar recorded a 13-2 singles record last year and is set to begin his junior campaign on Tuesday against the Tigers. Arthur Ibragimov is also back for the Crusaders after turning in a 10-3 singles record in 2025 as a true freshman.
First serve on Tuesday is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
