Tigers Conclude Daytona Beach Invitational with 1-0 Shutout over Bobcats

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The University of West Alabama Softball team concluded the Daytona Beach Invitational with a 1-0 victory against Georgia College & State on Sunday.

West Alabama (5-3-1) only produced one run on two hits on Sunday, but it was enough for the pitching duo of Megan Roe and Eleanor De Block who blanked Georgia College & State (1-4).

Roe got the start for the Tigers and went 2.0 innings, allowing three hits.

UWA scored their lone run of the game in the very first inning. With two outs in the inning, Ann Marie Stanbridge was hit by a pitch and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ella Watson drove in Stanbridge with an RBI-single to put West Alabama out in front, 1-0.

After a clean second inning, Roe dodged trouble in the third as the Bobcats left a runner stranded on third.

De Block relieved Roe after 2.0 innings of work. The senior right-hander carved through Georgia College & State's lineup, putting together 5.0 innings of no hit ball. De Block allowed one base runner on the day and struck out five, turning in her most efficient outing of the young season.

Haley Shannon recorded the Tigers' second hit of the day in the sixth inning but one run is all UWA would need as they closed the weekend with a 1-0 shutout over the Bobcats.

West Alabama will open up their home schedule on Saturday with a double header against Emmanuel set for 1:00 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex.
