Hatcher Homers Twice as Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader Against Falcons

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Softball team split their Saturday Double Header against Montevallo, winning Game One, 4-2, before falling, 3-2, in Game Two.

Trinity Hatcher was the biggest bright spot for West Alabama (18-6-1, 9-3 GSC) as the sophomore hit two Home Runs on the day, including a walk-off shot in Game Two of the series. No. 25 Montevallo (22-6, 7-5 GSC) held UWA to six runs on 11 hits through the two games.

GAME ONE: UWA 4, UM 2

Megan Roe got the start for the Tigers and threw an eight-inning complete game, holding the Falcons to two runs on six hits.

West Alabama seized an early lead in the first inning. Hatcher and Haley Shannon both drew walks, setting the stage for Ann Marie Stanbridge, who doubled down the right field line to bring in Hatcher. Shannon later scored on a passed ball, giving the Tigers a 2–0 advantage.

The Falcons responded in the fourth inning, as Bentlee Stiner and Becca Benton each singled, leading to two runs scored on sacrifice flies, evening the game at 2–2.

The game entered extra innings with the score still tied at two. The Tigers retired the Falcons' side in order in the top of the inning, setting the stage for UWA's offense. With one out in the bottom half, Hatcher blasted a two-run walk-off homer to win it for West Alabama, 4-2.

Hatcher's two-run homer highlighted the game, but Ann Marie Stanbridge also added to the scoreboard with an RBI double and reached base twice on walks. Megan Roe pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs over 8 innings while striking out one, maintaining a WHIP of .75.

GAME TWO: UM 3, UWA 2

Ann Marie Stanbridge got the start for UWA in the series finale, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

In the second inning, the Falcons took a 2-0 lead as Kiera Olson scored on a throwing error, followed by Bentlee Stiner scoring on a Riley Tyree single.

West Alabama responded in the fourth inning. Ella Watson reached on a throwing error and later scored on Carolyn Cagle's single, closing the gap to 2–1.

The sixth inning saw Montevallo extend its lead when Ariana Pinder scored, bringing the score to 3–1.

In the seventh inning, Hatcher hit her second homer of the day to make it a one-run game a Home Run to center field. Despite the rally, the Tigers could not overcome the deficit as the Falcons took Game Three of the series, 3-2.

West Alabama will now begin a six-game road trip, beginning in Cleveland, MS against Delta State next weekend.
