ROME, Ga. - The University of West Alabama Tennis program swept their doubleheader against Nebraska Kearney on Saturday.
Both UWA's Men's and Women's team captured clean 4-0 wins to complete the sweep against the Lopers.
WEST ALABAMA MEN'S TENNIS
West Alabama Men's team got the day started by winning the doubles point. The duos of Federico Iturbe/Jacob Tapia and Afonso Portugal/Maksim Goncharov won their doubles match to clinch the first point for the Tigers.
In singles play, Tapia took care of business in Line Two, picking up a (6-4, 6-2) victory. Portugal followed suit on Line Three, taking home a dominant (6-0, 6-2) win while Itaru Kikuchi handled his competition on Line six, (6-0, 6-4) to clinch the win for UWA.
WEST ALABAMA WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Tigers opened the day, by taking the doubles point. Shaira Rivera/Alexa Milliam, Valentina Mutilba/Jenaila Prulla, Greta Zawels/Nanoka Kazama all claimed dominant wins in doubles play, sparking momentum that carried into singles.
In singles play, Milliam bounced back with a convincing, (6-0, 6-1) win on Line two. Freshman sensation Jian Ibrahim continued her impressive campaign as she claimed a clean (6-0, 6-0) victory in Line Four. To round out the Tigers, Kazama was victorious, (6-1, 6-0) on Line Six to put a stamp on a dominant performance for West Alabama.
UWA will turn around and play North Georgia on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to close the weekend.
